Dad journal day--um..38.

Baby Gavin has grown soo much since the last post. He also burps louder (sound file or video to come) and spits up more.

I was told that the stains that do not come out from clothing (spit up) are memory spit and that i should treasure it and not get the stains out. LEt me tell you that he will have a lot of memories.
He finally is falling asleep through the night (almost). 5 hrs is his usual sleep time.

Today i was up at 3 am for some reason and i could not go back to sleep. There was a new drink that i bought from Costco that has something like 5 or 6 veggies mixed with fruits and stuff. Any who i think that the drink kept me up (after being thirsty and drinking full glass of it). Oh well, i was watching a movie when i looked over at Gavin and to my surprise he had spit up (more like a small barf amount, I asked him what happened and he just smiled.
Im going back to bed.

Dad journal day 11

I must say that seeing the black tar poop was cooool. I have read up on it and how it will change over time.
what day is it today? I have seen many diapers and have been peed on numerous times but what really gets me the most i think is the lack of sleep.

Black tar poop (meconuim) is some sticky icky stuff that takes a while to get out of your babys butt. I was glad when he transitioned to a different kind of poop and consistency.
LEt me start from the beginning, we woke up to my alarm at 540am on July 23. My wife said, "i think that i heard something pop". I thought to myself, "oh yeah, no work today, gotta go to the hospital and check this out". (just kidding BRandon)....
We had time to get ready and even had some food to eat on our way. We got to the hospital around eight am and checked in. This was the new kaiser off sand canyon and alton (well not new but the delivery building/wing was).

There was not tearing of my skin from my wife but on the contrary a more serious lets get to business attitude. Unfortunately her epi wore off 3/4 of the way into labor. She needed more but took half an hour for the next dose to kick in. I was counting and timing the contractions as they hit wave after wave. FInally i saw Gavin's head/hair. He had taken 14 hrs to be born but at 1050pm he was introduced to his proud parents.

The first 3 days were a bit blurry because we were recovering from being a married couple to a family. I had very little sleep throughout those nights and by day 7 i was sleepwalking!!!!!!!
It was more sleep taking care off. My wife told me of numerous times that i was over Gavin watching him just in case anything... I do not remember this going on.. I did wake up 2 times out of the 8 times or so that my wife tells me, those 2 times i was aware that i had no baby on my arm but was still on the crib. Weird, i know im not getting enough rest but this is ridiculous. Next thing you know i will be sleep blogging.

The last 6 days have been a bit more predictable. He takes his semi long nap around 2p and wakes up around 5-6p. then cluster feeds around 9-11pm (basically eating frequently in anticipation for a long sleep, something like that).
HE then goes to sleep around midnight and wakes up around 5 or 6 am. that sounds like no time but it is welcomed sleep for the both of us.


Unfortunately our son has club feet, not too severe but we started with intervention today to correct the problem. His feet are turned inside more than what they should be (like a club, duh). Anyways we just left the orthopedic surgeons office today and he had placed casts on both legs to slowly stretch and move the ligaments to where he can have corrected feet alignment. These casts will be changed every week and will be like this for about 3-4 months.
OTher than that, i thank God for giving us a healthy baby that pees on me every other day.

I wish for...

I was wondering today when I saw a something resting on my upper lip.

My wife took an eyelash from my cheek and said "make a wish".

So i did, now I'm not going to tell you what i wished for but to my surprise i looked in the mirror and found a nose hair on my lip.. can i make a wish out of that?

I am man enough

I wonder when the last time i had to prove myself to my wife that i was tough enough.

She was not there when i had my last fight (3rd grade, i lost, only because he was a 5th grader). Fighting with my brother does not count.
We had gone to dinner tonight at a Thai restaurant (love thai) and out of nowhere she said "eat that red chili". Mind you I was not thinking and only reacting to the taunt. I placed it in my mouth and started chewing. That little chili was hard to chew, oh but as soon as I got through chewing it I remembered that all things eaten must come out, out the other end that is. Any who, as i was swallowing that small bite, i started to immediately sweat in my forehead. Again I am hispanic but was never raised on hot stuff (my first encounter with a jabanero years ago was not pleasant). I was uncomfortable but stood my ground, not showing emotions in my face. My tears and sweat gave it away though, "its hot hugh babe", she said. I could only smile and say "its not hot, why dont you try it?"

Im chunkies monkies part 2

Back in january i blogged about my weight. I am still at 200 and started on my plan to loose 16 pounds...
2 weeks ago i started to jog (phew!! took the wind out of me after 1 mile)
eating red meat 1 to zero times a week.
trying to eat better, no fried food, junk foor (thats easy since i was never a junk food person), and avoiding my moms food (mother in law, sorry babe, i hope you understand).

Went to sushi last week and the waitress asked if we wanted the all you can eat special .... WAAAH!!. i kindly said " no thank you"
So far i try to mix the route because my body gets used to the difficulty level. The only set back is that my knees take a beating and hurt for a day or two between jogs.

I had a blast at the SUmo tournament, it was everything that i had ever thought that it would be. Better than sliced bread...

Happy fathers day

Happy fathers day. I saw my father's father yesterday. I had not seen my grandfather in 5 years, prior to that, 15 years. He looks like my brother (haha, Oscar, he looks like you). I will visit my dad next monday, i hope. What i should say is that I will make time for that, what kind of a son am I? His birthday is coming up, June 21st, he has been gone for 5 years.

This father's day I received a father's day card from my other father (wife's dad). It feels natural to call him dad.
He wrote me a card that will never leave my heart. His words, very touching.
